I think that this topic is funny. A large amount of land in California is, and would be, owned by the feds. For example, all the national forests, parks, and monuments. Add to that the federal government administrative and judicial locations.
People are leaving the state to get away from the 13% income tax, the second highest sales tax, the third highest gas tax, the schools rated 46th in the country, and the freeways rated 49th.
Those in favor of secession also want to make the whole state a sanctuary location which would protect undocumented criminals. On top of that, 22% of the state’s population are below the poverty level and one third of the population are on welfare. By exiting the Union, California would forego all the federal funding it now receives as one of the United States.
So, how do the secessionists figure the State can survive economically as an independent nation?
